| Originally posted by gabrielleabelle at Mississippi Personhood AmendmentOkay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media. Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status. Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing. Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states. What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it. The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute. So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it. If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it. What to do? - Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it. - If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link. - You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this. - Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness. | |

| I've been thinking something for quite a long time, and recently, surprised at my behavior, I started to wonder what had prompted me to emit that behavior in the first place.
I hate friends cuts, and like a good denizen of LJ, you know, there's that 'your journal, your rules' thing. But you know, my journal, my rules. And I hate friends cuts. I think they reduce internet friendships back down to something that is 1. disposable, 2. something too much like high school for me. It makes friending people feel like voluntarily entering into some worthiness contest, and heaven knows real life makes itself into a worthiness contest without me worrying about it here. I know the people who think that LJ friending is more like a readership, okay, fine, think that way, but to be fair, unless you're journal is all public, it's about access to that readership and who is worthy of it or not. But I guess I just don't view it that way.
What I see is instead of each person being judged on their merit at the time you make the decision that it isn't someone worth knowing or reading for whatever reason, there is a wholesale, wave-of-the-wand judgement call, like 'you guys are good enough' and 'you guys weren't, sorry, nothing personal!'
So basically, here's how it is. If you have a friends cut, then put me on it. If you don't like my stance, defriend me. I obviously don't have the high ground, not posting much anymore, but yeah, I don't care. I feel like I'm better off not wondering how long I'm going to know any particular person.
ETA: Mass deleting inactive journals isn't what I'm talking about. Unless your idea of inactive is two weeks, but then I'm a goner anyhow, so still not part of this statement. - Mood:thoughtful

| So in the tradition of 1)speculating about a show fanfic, 2)I'm going to ship this, nyah, nyah, nyah TPB, I wrote a Defying Gravity fic! :P Title: Volcanoes Fandom: Defying Gravity Genre: Romance-ish gen? Pairings/Characters: Jen/Zoe Rating: PG-13 Warnings: Femmeslashy stuff. Unbeta'ed, so the mistakes are all mine. Summary: Zoe finds it isn't easy liking a straight woman? Something like that. Based off of descriptions and such, so if it ends up being entirely OOC, well, ok. ( She knows about that things can stay buried a long time ) | |

| I've had this sitting on my computer since sometime around when Torchwood finished up its first series, so that tells you how long it's been. I never got around to polishing it as well as I wanted, but I thought I should go ahead and post it. It's definitely more tone than lyrics based. It's also somewhat interpretive. I would still watch the show if it were completely about Suzie, or she were at least the main antogonist, but she's not, so alas! Very unpolished as far as numbering the songs, etc. goes. Slightly AU from somewhere in the middle of 2.05 The Serena Also Rises onwards. Slight spoilers for everything before that.
